Malene received a M.Sc. in Biochemistry in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology in 2001 from University of Copenhagen, Denmark. During this time, Dr. Hansen worked as a trainee in several labs in the US, including the University of North Carolina and The Scripps Research Institute. After her Ph.D., Dr. Hansen trained as a postdoctoral fellow in molecular genetics at the University of California in San Francisco. Dr. Hansen was recruited to SBMRI in the fall of 2007 to the Institute’s Development and Aging Program at the Del E. Webb Neuroscience, Aging and Stem Cell Research Center.

Caroline earned her degree as a Diplom Biologist/M.Sc. from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. She received a scholarship from the Bavarian Research Foundation, which enabled her to conduct her diploma thesis at the University of Michigan. She continued her Ph.D. studies in Michigan, where she investigated the influence of oxidative stress on C. elegans aging. Her research was funded by a Ph.D. fellowship from Boehringer Ingelheim Funds. Currently, Caroline is working on how integrin-linked proteins and translation initiation affect aging and age-related diseases.

Jose graduated with a B.S. in Biology and Biochemistry in 2007 at the University of Salamanca, Spain. He then earned his Ph.D. at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain by studying the molecular basis of human Coronaviruses pathogenesis, at the National Centre for Biotechnology. Jose joined the Hansen Lab February 2016 and is currently working on identifying novel molecular pathways regulating autophagy and aging.

Degree from School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. She continued her graduate studies from New Delhi at National Institute of Immunology, India, Molecular Aging Laboratory, supported by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research fellowship. She conducted her graduate studies on C. elegans to decipher the role of transcriptional modulators downstream of the nutrient sensing pathways. In April 2017 Anupama joined the Hansen lab as a joint post-doc with Sreekanth Chalasani’s lab at Salk Institute for Biological Sciences. She is currently working on the different aspects of inter-tissue signaling in regulating animal behavior, health and aging.

Ee Phie graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in May of 2011 with a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering. In 2011 she was hired as a Research Assistant at the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) for a year. In 2012 she joined KUMC as a graduate student and in 2017 earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology by studying how O-GlcNAc a post-translational modification regulates mitochondrial function. Ee Phie joined the Hansen lab in July of 2017 and is currently working on identifying potential autophagy regulators and cargo adaptor proteins relevant to aging.

Yang graduated from Nanjing Agricultural University, China with a B.S. degree in Biology. He then earned his Ph.D. at the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences where he studied molecular mechanisms of neuron development and intracellular transport with C. elegans as a model organism. Yang joined the Hansen lab in September of 2016 and is currently working on the molecular mechanisms underlying selective autophagy during aging.

Shaun received his B. Sc. degree in Biology in 2018 from Yale-NUS College, Singapore. He used C. elegans as a model organism to study the aberrant expression of the small heat shock protein HSP-16.2 with age as well as the role of the mammalian mitochondrial sirtuin SIRT3 in the context of aging. In the fall of 2018, he joined the Hansen lab at SBPMRI as a graduate student, where he is currently investigating the spatiotemporal regulation of autophagy during aging. | | | Sean-Luc Shanahan (sshanahan@sbpdiscovery.org) | | Research Assistant I |  |
Sean-Luc recently graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with a B.S. in Biochemistry (2016). He returned to SBP in May 2016 as a Research Assistant studying the signaling and trafficking events that occur during autophagy and autophagosome formation.

Elizabeth was a Research Asst. at the Morres Cancer Center, UCSD for about 18 months. After that she was an Intern at Fluoresprobe Sciences. Elizabeth recently graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Biochemistry (2016). She joined the Hansen lab in January of 2017 as a Research Assistant I.

She joined the Hansen lab as an Intern in April of 2017 to study molecular mechanisms that govern autophagy and in July of 2107 was hired as a Lab Assistant I.
